English 1: Foundations in Literature and Writing 

Recommended for students working at the 9th-grade English level

Build a strong foundation in high school English through engaging literature, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and discussion. Students develop essential reading, writing, and critical thinking skills while exploring classic and contemporary literature from a Christian worldview. Throughout the course, they gain confidence as readers and writers while learning the habits and skills needed for success in future high school and college-level coursework.

Journey through some of history's greatest works of literature while strengthening analytical reading, academic writing, grammar, vocabulary, and rhetorical thinking. Students examine works such as The Odyssey, Macbeth, The Great Divorce, The Time Machine, and Fahrenheit 451 through a Christian worldview, developing the skills to analyze literature thoughtfully and communicate ideas with clarity and confidence.

Self-Paced English 1

A flexible, parent-supported version of StoryRoot's English 1 curriculum that allows students to learn at their own pace. Students complete the same literature, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literary analysis found in the live course through organized lessons, guided assignments, and parent-friendly resources. Optional teacher grading and feedback are available for families who would like additional support.
